7th House

Sanskrit: Kalatra

partnership: the chapter where the story is no longer only about one person — marriage, business partners, and the face-to-face relationships that define you.

In Vedic astrology, the 7th house (Kalatra) is the house of partnership — marriage, business partners, and the open relationships where the story is no longer only about one person. It is the house of the other, the horizon of the chart: everything you meet face-to-face in life.

The 7th house shows the kind of spouse or partner you attract, the quality of your marriage, and how you negotiate contracts and alliances. It also describes your own capacity for relationship — because what you draw toward you mirrors what you are. Its karaka is Venus, the planet of love and union.

As the house of the spouse it is read together with Venus and the navamsha (D-9) chart for the full picture of marriage. A strong 7th house grants harmonious partnership and success through others; an afflicted one shows conflict in marriage, partnership betrayals, or a life of legal and personal "against" energies.

Classical Significations:

  • Roles: Marriage, spouse, business partners, contracts, open enemies, the public.
  • Karaka: Venus.
  • Nature: A kendra (angle); the house of the other.
