6th House
Sanskrit: Ari
service and obstacles: daily work, health, debts, and the problems that must be solved — the chapter that forges discipline.
In Vedic astrology, the 6th house (Ari) is the house of service and struggle — daily work, health, disease, debts, and the enemies and obstacles that must be overcome. It is the house of the problems that forge you: the more you master it, the stronger you become.
The 6th house shows how you handle adversity. It rules routine employment, service to others, hygiene and healing, and the disputes and competitions that test your nerve. Its karakas are Mars and Saturn — the ability to fight and the capacity to endure. In the body it governs illness and recovery; in life it governs the debts you pay down, literally and karmically.
As an upachaya house, the 6th improves with effort — and it is classically considered a dusthana whose afflictions are survivable, even strengthening. A strong 6th house grants victory over enemies, robust health, and the discipline of reliable daily work; an afflicted one shows chronic illness, litigation, or servitude to endless small crises.
