4th House

Sanskrit: Sukha

home and heart: the mother, the house you grew up in, and the inner peace you carry from it — the foundation everything else stands on.

In Vedic astrology, the 4th house (Sukha) is the house of home and heart — the mother, the house you grew up in, the land of your roots, and the inner peace you carry from them. It sits at the very bottom of the chart, the foundation everything else stands on.

The 4th house shows where you feel safe. It governs domestic life, real estate, vehicles, and the emotional ground you return to when the outer world is too much. Its karakas are the Moon and Venus — receptivity and contentment. On the deepest level it describes the state of your heart: whether your inner home is a refuge or a battlefield.

As the house of the mother it is read together with the Moon and the 9th (father) for the full picture of family. A strong 4th house grants emotional security, a supportive home, and peace of mind; an afflicted one shows restlessness, difficult family roots, or a heart that never learned to settle.
