Retrograde & Combust Planets
How retrograde (vakra) and combust planets express — conditions that turn a planet's energy inward or under the Sun's beams.
Combust Jupiter: The Shadowed Teacher
A combust Jupiter shares its wisdom through others: blessings arrive late or indirectly, and the native teaches best what they have struggled to claim for themselves.
Combust Mars: The Sun's Soldier
A combust Mars fights in the Sun's shadow: its drive and courage are spent in service of something larger than itself, and its victories come through others.
Combust Mercury: The King's Messenger
A combust Mercury thinks in the Sun's service: the mind is quick but shaped by authority, and the native's words carry another's message as often as their own.
Combust Saturn: Discipline in the Sun's Court
A combust Saturn works in the shadow of authority and ambition: discipline is spent building another's structure, and reward arrives only after the work is proven.
Combust Venus: Love in the King's Shadow
A combust Venus loves through another's light: affection and taste are shaped by partnership and approval, and the native's desires surface through the people they admire.
Retrograde Jupiter: The Inner Guru
Retrograde Jupiter turns wisdom inward: growth and faith are found through internal revision rather than external teachers, and blessings arrive after the lesson is truly learned.
Retrograde Mars: The Internalized Warrior
Retrograde Mars turns the warrior inward: anger becomes deliberate, courage is rehearsed privately, and battles are fought twice before they are fought once.
Retrograde Mercury: The Inner Editor
Retrograde Mercury turns the mind inward: thinking becomes recursive, speech becomes measured, and the native masters the art of revision before release.
Retrograde Saturn: The Internalized Taskmaster
When Saturn is retrograde, the pressure of time, discipline, and responsibility is turned inward, creating a relentless internal standard.
Retrograde Venus: The Inner Standard of Love
Retrograde Venus turns affection inward: love, values, and taste are re-examined from within, and relationships often return or repeat until the lesson is learned.
