When Jupiter occupies Krittika, the third of the 27 lunar mansions, the planet of wisdom walks through the purifying fire. Krittika is ruled by the Sun and presided over by Agni, the god of fire. Its symbol is the razor or flame — and Jupiter here is the sharpener: precise, purifying, and decisive in its faith.
This Jupiter grows by cutting. Where Jupiter in Bharani transforms through depth, Jupiter in Krittika purifies through clarity — the native's wisdom is applied like a blade to whatever is false, and their teaching leaves the truth standing clean.
Core Manifestations
- The Decisive Faith: This Jupiter believes in clarity. The native's wisdom is practical and unambiguous — they see what must be done and have the courage to say it.
- The Purifying Counsel: Agni's gift makes this Jupiter a cleanser of falsehood. The native helps others burn away what no longer serves — beliefs, habits, associations — and their guidance is known for its edge.
- The Independent Guru: Krittika is ruled by the Sun, giving this Jupiter a self-reliant authority. The native's faith is their own — formed in fire, answerable to no school.
The Shadow: The Fire That Burns the Flock
The shadow of this placement is clarity without compassion. A Jupiter in Krittika can cut so decisively — in counsel, in judgment — that it scorches the people it meant to guide, and can mistake sharpness for truth. The lesson is that fire warms as well as cuts; the guru must also know when to be gentle.
Dasha Activation
During the 16-year Jupiter Mahadasha, this placement's themes come forward: a decade of purification, decisive growth, and the rewards of clear faith — in which the native's cutting wisdom wins respect, and their challenge is to learn when the blade should rest.
